Ottelia Basart (OT for short) is a peer serving Cleburne County. She uses her lived experience to help others on their path to recovery. View the spotlight video here: https://youtu.be/WgSlkYGWd70
Peer support is often the only substance use recovery resource available in rural areas, like many of the small towns in Arkansas. To bring awareness to this resource, decrease stigma, and provide insight to peer support services, AROUTE has partnered with several Arkansas based Peer Support Specialists in a unique spotlight series set to release over the next several weeks.
OT found her passion in serving peers as a peer recovery support specialist. She shares some of her story in this video, which highlights the importance of peer work in the lives of rural community members. “When she came to me she was so broken. And to watch her just grow and for the light to come back into her eyes and for her to restore her relationship with her family and receive her drivers license and to help her regain the resources that she didn’t even know she could or had… to put those in her hands was a very beautiful thing to watch.”
You may contact OT through the contact information given at the end of the video and see what peer services are available in your county at
